Idaho Forge is owned and operated by Vince Bergkamp. The forge operates out of Boise, Idaho and specializes in hand-forged wrought iron creations.
"I'm trying to make something that has a purpose, that can be used. That's the beauty of blacksmithing—it's art that has a function. And, that's the beauty of steel. Every single piece I make, when you look at it closely it will be quite different."
At Idaho Forge, my main focus is ornamental iron work from projects such as deck railings, driveway gates and iron stairways to kitchen items such as cabinet pulls and pot racks. I enjoy doing all types of furniture: end tables, coffee tables, chairs, stools, mirrors, coat racks and exterior items such as trellises, plant hangars, fountains and all sorts of yard art.
All my work is done by hand using the several anvils I own. I also incorporate my 25 lb Little Giant trip hammer, which is over 100 years old and a 95 lb air hammer that I hand built myself. Occasionally, I employ a helper apprentice in the shop.
Like many blacksmiths of my generation, I was initiated into smithing through shoeing horses, which I have done for over 30 years. I am a Journeyman level farrier in America and am registered with the Company of Worshipful Farriers of England.

“I wanted to let you know what a great job you did on my handrail. It goes perfectly with the house. It looks absolutely wonderful. Thank you also for completing the job for a reasonable price and in a timely manner.”
